This project will commercialize novel and fast antibiotic susceptibility tests (AST) based on flow cytometric analysis, to determine antibiotic susceptibility of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The novel flow cytometry antimicrobial susceptibility FAST-bact test delivers very fast results (within 1h) when compared to the current state-of-the art AST methods that have a turnaround time of at least 24 hours. The introduction of the FAST-bact tests will have an important impact on clinical decision-making for treatment of serious bacterial infections. It will help the physician to rapidly determine the microorganism phenotype and to initiate the optimal antibiotic treatment with the narrowest spectrum within the hour.
